Brașov 2027 takes shape with six months to go

Preparations for the Winter European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) Brașov 2027 are gathering pace as the event reaches the six-month countdown to its opening.

The Romanian city will welcome around 1,000 athletes between the ages of 14 and 18 from 14 to 21 February 2027. For many participants, the Festival will provide their first opportunity to compete at an international multi-sport event, while also introducing them to the Olympic Values and the wider spirit of Olympism.

The sporting programme will feature ten disciplines: ice hockey, 3×3 ice hockey, Alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, ski jumping, biathlon, figure skating, short track and ski mountaineering.

The Organising Committee, led by Chair George Scripcaru, Mayor of Brașov, and Executive Director Dan Ghiță, Deputy Mayor of Brașov, is working closely with the EOC to deliver the Festival’s full winter sports programme. Preparations for both Athletes’ Villages and the venues for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies are also progressing.

The EOC’s Brașov 2027 Coordination Commission continues to work alongside the Organising Committee in overseeing preparations for the Festival. It is chaired by Damir Stajner, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Serbia.

Representatives of the participating National Olympic Committees will receive further operational information during the Chefs de Mission Seminar, scheduled to take place on 23 and 24 September.

EYOF Commission Chair and EOC Executive Committee Member Líney Rut Halldórsdóttir welcomed the progress made so far and expressed confidence that Romania would stage an outstanding Festival for Europe’s leading young winter sports athletes.

She also highlighted the importance of the EYOF as an introduction to elite-level competition and Olympic principles, describing it as an experience capable of influencing young athletes both throughout their sporting careers and beyond.

With its established winter sports tradition and mountain setting, Brașov is now moving into the final phase of preparations ahead of welcoming young competitors from across Europe in February.
