Baku 2015 were distinguished by their state-of-the-art facilities, particularly the Olympic Stadium, which set new standards for sports infrastructure in the region. The event’s uniqueness stemmed from the fusion of sporting excellence with cultural festivities, with the Flame Towers illuminating the skyline and the Flame Ceremony symbolising the unity of participating nations. Furthermore, Baku 2015 introduced a European Games trademark, highlighting the maiden edition’s innovative approach to fostering athletic competition while promoting cultural exchange and solidarity among European nations.
MEDALS
Rasim Babayev, the Azerbaijani designer in charge of the project, drew inspiration from Azerbaijan’s rich culture and history to create the design of the medals. He wanted them to reflect the identity and cultural heritage of the host country, with traditional patterns, floral motifs, and geometric details. The serrated edge added a touch of dynamism, with either a shiny polish or a matte finish to highlight the design details.
At the center of the medals was the official emblem of the Baku 2015 European Games, which consisted of a stylized design representing the Olympic flame surrounded by dynamic geometric shapes symbolizing the energy, movement, and diversity of the sports and athletes participating in the games.
