In 2019, for the first time in the event’s history, Montenegro was the host nation of the GSSE. Nine nations were welcomed to Montenegro for the competition. Athletes competed for gold across 10 sports tennis, swimming and athletics. The 2019 edition continued the tradition of the GSSE, emphasising sportsmanship, unity, and the celebration of athletic achievements among the small states of Europe. The motto for this edition of the GSSE was “How Big We Are”
