Swiss athlete Jolanda Neff has become the first European Games champion in history securing gold in the women’s Mountain Bike Cycling competition. Neff, who’s already been World Champion for two consecutive years, now has another achievement to add to her spectacular career. Her name is already written in the history of the European Games, next to Swiss Kathrin Stirnemann who came in second and Polish Maja Włoszczowska who came in third.
Boxer Elvin Mamishzada’s outstanding performance illuminated Azerbaijan’s triumph at the Baku 2015 European Games boxing competition. Mamishzada’s victory, marked by a split decision triumph over Azamat Issakulov, set the tone for the Azerbaijan’s dominance, ultimately clinching seven gold medals on the grandest stage. Amidst fervent applause, Mamishzada’s skill and poise epitomised his nation’s success, resonating with pride throughout the arena.
Spain’s Luis Leon Sanchez emerged victorious at the Baku 2015 European Games men’s cycling road race, clinching gold in a thrilling sprint finish. After securing bronze in the individual time trial, Sanchez capitalised on a selfless lead-out from teammate Jesus Herrada Lopez, crossing the finish line first in 5 hours 27 minutes and 25 seconds. In a dramatic climax to the 216-kilometer race, Sanchez surged ahead, leaving classics specialists like Tom Boonen and Niki Terpstra behind as they battled for European Games glory.

ABOUT BAKU 2015

The inaugural Baku 2015 European Games were distinguished by their state-of-the-art facilities, particularly the Olympic Stadium, which set new standards for sports infrastructure in the region. The event’s uniqueness stemmed from the fusion of sporting excellence with cultural festivities, with the Flame Towers illuminating the skyline and the Flame Ceremony symbolising the unity of participating nations. Furthermore, Baku 2015 introduced a European Games trademark, highlighting the maiden edition’s innovative approach to fostering athletic competition while promoting cultural exchange and solidarity among European nations.
