San Marino’s swimmer Arianna Valloni made history by clinching gold in a thrilling final. Her powerful strokes and unwavering mindset propelled her to the podium in the girls’ 1500m freestyle. Valloni had already showcased her talent earlier on the week, when she claimed the gold medal in the 800m Freestyle event. Her prowess will surely secure her a memorable place in GSSE folklore.
The Cyprus judo team captivated audiences with their swift movements and precise technique, earning multiple gold medals in the men’s team events. The Cyprus team showcased their talent and dedication, solidifying their status in the top of the judo medal table, with eight gold medals.
Maltese tennis players Matja Pecotic and Matthew Asciak made history on home soil by clinching gold in a thrilling final match against Cyprus. Their teamwork and impeccable technique earned them gold, marking a triumphant moment under the passionate support from the local crowd. Team Malta made history as it leads the medal table for the first time ever.

ABOUT MALTA 2023

Malta hosted the GSSE for the third time in 2023, welcoming nine small European States to the competition. This 20th edition was meant to be the 21st, but the 2021 GSSE in Andorra were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This edition thus, welcomed back the competition with open arms after a 4 year wait. Over 1,000 athletes competed across 11 sports. Malta 2023 focused on bringing together athletes and nations, as well as creating sense fo healthy competition.
